How many bottom drains? What is the minimum number of 4" aerated bottom drains that would be needed in a 22'x16' pond. The bottom will be sloped from 3' at the edges to 5' at the drain s. There will be 4 TPR one on each side to move water to the drains. The pond will also have a waterfall at one end and a skimmer at the other.
I would say two with a filter system on each if poss. Why the huge slope? For a koi pond, do 5 at the edges sloping to 6 at a row of 3 or 4 drains down the middle. Use TPRs shooting along the long walls and a minimum of 40L or air for each bottom drain dome. MCA Too much sanity may be madness and maddest of all is to see life as it is and not as it should be. Pumps -? Part of your drain equation relates to your pumps, and how much water you'll be recirculating. If you find a display pond at a Specialty Koi Dealers place five years or older WITH an aerated bottom drain, I would be very surprised and say you are at a facility that has helped pioneer aerated drains from the very beginning.
Please spend money with them! They deserve your financial support! This is extremely exciting to our organization and it is only because of these advancements in Pond Bottom Drain Technology within the last few years that we even offer pond drain installations today.
Our construction team has offered pond drain installations since and have we made it a point to really begin educating and promoting bottom drains in our pond design consultations.
The ornamental gravel serves as a place for ben eficia l bacteria to colonize to help manage sludge and debris that ty pically settles to the bottom of a pond.
Bottom drains can be installed into rock and gravel ponds too, with just a little extra work. We only recommend Gravity Flow Bottom Drain Installations as opposed to direct suction drain installations. Gravity flow means we are plumbing the bottom drain to a pre-filtration unit and from the pre-filtration unit we are draining water with a pond pump and sending the water to filtration.
For example, the drain can be plumbed to a settling chamber, a sett lement tank, a skimmer , or sieve filter.
Where ever you are draining your pond bottom drain to will be at the same water level as your pond and by removing water from this pre-filter, the law of gravity is pulling water from the pond through the bottom drain line to fill the pre-filter back up. You can still have one installed, but it may not do much for the overall look and health of the pond. We rarely have to install bottom drains or even recirculation vaults. A bottom drain is not to be confused with underliner drainage systems, which remove water that might collect under the liner.
This is only in yards in which the rainwater will run to the pond, causing a potential for water to go under the liner. Previous Next. What Are Bottom Drains?
