Everyone has got such joyous memories of Jaws, and he had time for everybody. Monetti added: "Whenever you mentioned Jaws, his eyes lit up and there was that famous grin.
Micky Dolenz, who starred with Kiel in the seminal episode of The Monkees - I was a Teenage Monster, tweeted his memories of the star: "The great character actor and gentle giant. The character of Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me was originally intended to die at the end of the movie, but he was so popular with fans that Kiel was brought back to reprise the role in Moonraker. There were hoots and howling, applause. I couldn't believe it. There is a large fight between the two, mid-air, that ends with Bond stealing Jaws' parachute.
Jaws manages to survive, as always, by safely landing on a circus tent. While Bond is in a cable car half way down a mountain, jaws kills the car operator and stops Bond's car in mid air. He then proceeds to join Bond in another car, and a fight ensues on the roof, twenty thousand feet in the air.
Jaws looses again, and his cable car crashes down into the control station. With death defying mega-villain style, Jaws manages to survive, and is rescued by a small pigtailed girl named Dolly. The two walk away holding hands, with a hint of love at first sight. Is jaws a true story? What shark is in Jaws 2? Is the shark in Jaws 2 male or female? Is Jaws 1 and 2 the same shark? Did the shark in Jaws 2 die? Does Netflix have jaws ?
While Moonraker was an enormous financial success, it was the zenith of how over-the-top and spectacle-driven James Bond movies could become. Scaling back and returning to 's spy-driven roots was the only option to redirect the franchise, but that also left Jaws out in the cold. Jaws' undeniable popularity, especially with younger audiences, ended up kneecapping the monster as a serious Bond villain. Before production began on Moonraker, director Lewis Gilbert's grandson even asked why Jaws had to be a bad guy, which prompted the shift of the villain losing his edge and becoming sympathetic in the film.
Further, the way Jaws survived near-death experiences like falling from an airplane was played for comedy. Ultimately, after the way Jaws was portrayed in Moonraker and how much kids liked him, Bond's producers and For Your Eyes Only' s director John Glen felt that there was no credible way to make the brute a genuine menace again. Jaws' run in the James Bond movies was over, but his impact and legacy still endure.
