It's great, but I can't tell you too much. I can't tell you really anything about the story! But it involves a lot dragons. Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, a powerful lord of House Velaryon a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen and the most notorious nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros with the world's largest navy. Mizuno, meanwhile, will play Mysaria, a woman who arrived in Westeros with nothing, but rose through the ranks to become the most trusted ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.
The two Targaryen royals play key roles in the climactic Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war that takes up a large chunk of George R. Expect to see these characters play major roles in the events of House of the Dragon, and given their lasting presence in the book, it's likely we'll see them across several seasons.
Though, as Game of Thrones proved, TV series aren't always per cent faithful to their source work. Interestingly, young versions of two of these characters have been cast — Milly Alcock has joined the lineup as a younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen, while Emily Carey will be the young Alicent Hightower.
Cooke has spoken a little about the series, saying there will not be any gratuitous violence against women, which Thrones was accused of on multiple occasions.
Viserys is chosen by the Lords of Westeros to succeed the Iron Throne and apparently wants to innocently carry on his grandfather's legacy. However, as the original series showed us, good men don't always make good leaders.
We expect even more silver-haired dragonriders to take the reign as casting details continue opening up in the presumably near future.
The beginning of House of the Dragon will date back to roughly years before the events of Game of Thrones. That might seem like a while back, but it's actually much more recent history than the canceled Naomi Watts prequel, which was set to take place "thousands of years" before Game of Thrones and explore the early history of ancient houses as well as the origin of the White Walkers.
Considering Westerosi societies were very much thriving, and turbulent as ever, during the timeline containing House of the Dragon, expect to see political interworkings akin to Game of Thrones explored in the prequel series. Whereas the canceled prequel would've more likely focused primarily on fantasy elements, House of the Dragon is based on a book very much centered around ancestral hierarchies, warring nations, and a massive civil war.
That should equate to a prequel series more tonally similar to Game of Thrones, a show as much about dragons as the dark underbellies of society and the ruling class. For the uninitiated, House Targaryen is very much affiliated with dragons, going all the way back to Aegon the Conqueror's fire-breathing conquest over the seven kingdoms where House of the Dragon picks up.
Since that book has been out for about two years, we have a pretty good idea of what we can expect to see from House of the Dragon's plot. The book picks up with Aegon's Conquest, which marked the very beginning of a new world order, the establishment of King's Landing as the world capital, and the physical formation of the Iron Throne.
Together with the help of his twin sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya not to mention their three dragons , Aegon Targaryen I successfully subdued six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, whether by conquest or their voluntary submission. The only kingdom to prevail unconquered was Dorne, which Rhaenys left unharmed after finding its castles abandoned and only women and children occupying its seat.
From there follows a turbulent run of Targaryen kings and queens; good, evil, and everywhere in between; leading up to the great civil war between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra over their father Viserys I's throne.
That long struggle endured for two years, through which several large-scale battles were fought until both Aegon II and Rhaenya died mysterious and grizzly respective deaths. The resulting power void fell to the young Aegon III to occupy, which resulted in the death of "the last dragon. The gap between the end of Fire and Blood and the beginning of Game of Thrones hasn't been written about in depth, but Martin has said he plans on writing Fire and Blood part 2 when he's finished the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Game of Thrones followed the books closely and with little deviation for the first four seasons, after which substantial changes to the characters and plot were made at least partly due to the source work not being finished at the time. For those reasons, it's hard to tell how faithfully House of the Dragon will tell the stories from Fire and Blood.
Jefferson Hall Devs , for one, is playing a Lannister. Aside from Hall, a handful of new cast members fill out Viserys council. Game of Thrones showrunners D. Weiss and David Benioff aren't involved with House of the Dragon at all—so you don't have to worry yet that your soon-to-be new favorite characters' fates will be derailed.
According to Deadline , the show was created by George R. Martin himself along with Ryan Condal Colony , Rampage.
Condal and GoT alum Miguel Sapochnik, who will also direct a handful of episodes, will serve as co-showrunners. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the first season will be 10 episodes. That seems like a good number, considering that's what GoT went with in its first six seasons.
Of course there will be! It is called House of the Dragon , and the Targaryens have long been one of the few families of dragon lords, so obviously those beautiful, high-flying, fire-breathing CG beasts will be back. HBO shared concept art of the House of Dragon 's dragons on social media in late , and they look every bit as badass as Daenerys' magnificent Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.
After HBO made the decision not to move forward with the prequel starring Naomi Watts, it became a little less clear which of the other spinoffs, if any, still have a shot of a series order. Deadline reported in early that HBO is developing multiple shows based in Martin's world, so at some point in the probably distant future, HBO will be home of the Songs of Fire and Ice universe with several series airing at once.
Because all of the shows are in the beginning stages, details are scarce, but THR was able to provide a little bit of insight on what to expect. It's possible that the show could be up first, and even be a spin-off of House of the Dragon , considering that character appears in both series. Not a whole lot is known about the Flea Bottom series, but the show about Princess Nymeria has the working title of 10, Ships.
It could be the most different from everything else that's in the works since it's said to take place well before the events of Game of Thrones , set 1, years prior. That series would focus on the warrior queen as she founded the kingdom of Dorne, which devotees should know made her quite a legend. Plus, even further down the line, Deadline shared that it's possible HBO could even pick up an animated Thrones show.
They reported that Bloys stressed that the talks with writers and animators have been "really, really embryonic," so don't get too excited at seeing some bloody battle in 2D form anytime soon. Regardless, that's a lot of GoT -inspired TV to look forward to—and at least in the meantime, we have House of the Dragon.
And who else but Arya Stark was able to kill him? Then we had the relationship between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Other Thrones characters perished in that season, such as Cersei Lannister and many more.
With that ending, some fans have been wondering if there will ever be more Game of Thrones, such as a season 9. Take Dexter , for example, which had a highly criticized ending, similar to Game of Thrones. That series is currently being revived with a new limited series and given a second chance. So will Game of Thrones get a second chance too? Unfortunately, at this time, there are no plans to revive or reboot Game of Thrones past season 8.
And as such, there will be no Game of Thrones season 9. HBO has not said anything about reviving the series. And no streaming platforms, such as Netflix or Hulu, have revealed any desires to pick up the series either. Though, who knows? HBO has several Game of Throne spin-offs in the works. And the show that has made it furthest along so far is House of the Dragon.
The series takes place around years before the events of Game of Thrones.
